Wave Race 64 Memories: Alan"Wave Race 64 was my first 3d gaming experience." I was an elementry school student at the height of the NES and SNES' popularity. I had all the latest games and could beat all of them. Then, when I made the transition to junior high and high school, something funny happened. Girls! I heard bits and pieces about the Nintendo 64, but I honestly didn't know what I had when my aunt gave one to me. I got the Nintendo 64, along with Super Mario 64, Wave Race 64, and Cruis'n USA all at one time. I had seen an arcade console for Cruis'n USA, but had never seen the game in action. I looked at the manuals for the games. The 3d character art was amazing. Is that what the game looks like?! I wondered. Well, not quite, but close! A normal person would have put in Super Mario 64 first, but for some reason I put in Wave Race 64. Immediately, I was floored with the graphics. The amazing graphics! I had never seen a game like this, and I was very excited that I actually owned it. I chose the first racer and started up. Needless to say, I wiped out a lot and missed enough buoys to be disqualified. I tried a few more times with the same results. I played Super Mario 64 for awhile, but eventually went back to Wave Race 64. I barely passed the first race, and eventually beat the easy mode. I was hooked! I played and played until I got Twilight City, and then a month later I got Glacier Coast. I'll never forget my first experience with 3d games. One of the greatest 3d games of all time, Wave Race 64! |
