Wave Race 64 Memories: Andrew

"I loved trying to beat Nintendo Power's top times."

The early N64 era was a great time to be a Nintendo fan. I got a Nintendo Power magazine after I got my N64, and I was really engrossed by the Nintendo culture. I read every page of the magazine and subscribed immediately.

They had competitions where you could race a certain track or try to collect a certain amount of coins, and you would get your name published in the magazine. This was before photoshop was popular so you couldn't fake it.

I tried a couple of the Mario 64 ones, but I would always miss one or two coins. That's when I discovered a game that I had but I hardly ever played: Wave Race 64.

I practiced hard and became really good at Wave Race 64. I spent months trying to beat my top times and get into the magazine. I thought that it would make me a national champion if I could get in there. I'd be one of the best in the world.

I was young at the time and never made it in (but I came very close!). I still have my great memories of trying to get a top time in Wave Race 64 though.
